About Marquita
Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Teens & Adults, Issaquah, Washington

My Calling

I have always been interested in human behavior, and as an adolescent, I found myself listening to and supporting those around me. Once in college, after taking introductory courses in psychology, I knew that counseling was my vocational calling. I completed my BA in psychology and decided to pursue my passions at the graduate level. I earned my MA from Antioch University in Seattle. I have worked with a diverse population of clients including adults in a public mental health agency and in the homes of children with Autism undergoing behavioral and social challenges.

My Approach

I believe that every individual that I work with is the expert in their own life. I act as a guide to help client’s better understand themselves and assist with identifying and achieving personal goals. I utilize several therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of my clients including motivational interviewing, mindfulness skills, and CBT. I also draw from experience facilitating DBT skills groups to teach concrete coping skills to help when feeling emotionally dysregulated. I enjoy helping clients improve their self-esteem, navigate life transitions, improve interpersonal skill, and explore cultural identity and belonging.

On a Personal Note . . .

When not working as a therapist, I am spending time with my daughter and husband. Our little trio likes to play cards, prepare meals together, and read. For personal self-care I can be found gardening, running, or enjoying a good film.
