Becoming a Therapist
The idea of becoming a therapist became a seed in my mind in 2003 when I watched the movie Freaky Friday. The mother who is portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis, is a psychiatrist and I was immediately at awe with her profession. I wanted to sit on a comfortable chair and listen to people talk about their life. From that moment on, I knew that helping people was going to be a part of my profession but I didn’t know that it was going to involve supporting couples/polycules and individuals until later in life.
Who I Work With
I am a part of the LGBTQ+ community, and it is my passion to support people who also identify within the community. I recognize how helpful it may be to feel supported by someone who can relate to one’s experience. Within my work, I also care to provide space to recognize how one’s queer identity intersects with all other identities. I am sex-positive, queer-affirming, trans-affirming, and kink and polyam-affirming.
I enjoy working with adults struggling with anxiety, relationship issues, depression, grief, queer-related problems, and life transitions. I’ve worked with couples with issues such as lack of intimacy, communication problems, having an open relationship, rekindling love, and understanding needs.
Therapy as a Process
I believe that change happens when people are provided with a safe place to better understand their problems and learn how to best move forward. I aim to create a space with openness, curiosity, and thoughtfulness. I see the therapy process as collaborative, I am the professional and my clients are the experts of their lives.
Education
I received my Master’s of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Lutheran University. I received my Bachelor’s of Art in Psychology with minors in Religion and Art.
On a Personal Note …
In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with the important people in my life. I also enjoy being creative, and I practice this through nail/wood art, baking cakes/cupcakes, oil painting, and any other ways that allow me to express myself.
