About Michelle
Child and Adult Therapist
About Me
I was the oldest child in a big family, a shy kid who had my nose in a book just about every spare minute. After high school, I went to Harvard, where I volunteered extensively with children and studied Psychology. I married and had a large family of my own, created through both birth and adoption, which spurred my interest in attachment, trauma, resilience and healing. While raising my children, I also volunteered in the community as a tutor, art teacher, choir assistant, college admissions mentor, math club coach, and more. As my kids got older and more independent, I returned to school, receiving an MSW from Boston University, with a focus on clinical counseling.
My Approach as a Therapist
I want to welcome you to therapy with warmth, acceptance, empathy, respect, and without judgment. I recognize your inherent worth, dignity, and potential, and I’m curious to learn about you and your experiences. I try to create a safe, secure, affirming space, and I’m incredibly honored as clients share their stories with me. I incorporate aspects of various therapeutic approaches, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation, Person-Centered Humanism, and a Psychodynamic approach. I strive to tailor my approach to the needs and goals of each unique individual client. I’ve worked with people who are struggling with a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, grief, relationship issues, parenting issues, and life transitions. I welcome clients of all ages and backgrounds.
What Draws me to the Field of Counseling
I’ve always been fascinated by the big questions that come with being human: How do we each create a life that’s rich and filled with meaning and purpose? How do we form our identities and sense of self-worth? How do we determine our own values, and live in accordance with those values? How do we survive and thrive, despite the challenges and hardships we’ve experienced? How can we learn and grow and change? How can we find peace? I’d love to work with you as you explore these and other issues, and work towards creating your own rich, meaningful life.
Outside of Work
When I’m not working, I love to read, walk, sing, garden, and stream all kinds of entertaining shows. I enjoy traveling and playing lots of games with my family. I also spend a lot of time doodling and painting; I find art to be a wonderful form of mindful relaxation.
