My Life:  Finding Balance

The three most important roles in my life are being a mom, a wife, and a therapist.  Like many parents, I continuously strive to find balance between work and family.  It is not always easy!  But I feel fortunate to be able to do the work I do, and feel deeply fulfilled in each of these roles.

In order to be the best I can in each of these roles, I must take care of myself.  I surround myself with positive people that help me to find humor and fun in life.  I enjoy traveling; especially to visit friends and family in my home state of California.  I love the Pacific Northwest, although I think my heart will always be in San Francisco.  I enjoy just about anything active and outdoors:  hiking, jogging, walks, playing in the park with my children, and I love being near the water.

My Work:  A Rewarding Experience

Working in an agency for the past 11 years, I have provided therapy to young children, adolescents, teens, adults and families.  I have gained a tremendous amount of training and experience that I bring to my practice.  It continues to be an honor to do this powerful and intimate work.  I am grateful that my clients allow me to help support them through this journey, exploring where they’ve been, where they are, and where they want to go.  For the past 3 years I have had the opportunity to provide clinical supervision to other therapists.  This has proven to be a very rewarding experience.

I view therapy as a dynamic process that involves both developing new skills and strategies that will help clients reach their personal goals while at the same time doing deeper emotional work to gain insight into past and current feelings, thoughts and experiences.

My Passion

I truly enjoy working with people of all ages, but I’ve always been particularly drawn to working with children, adolescents, young adults and their families.  Working with kids comes quite natural to me.  I believe the key to success in working with kids is to be open, kind, and tap into their natural strengths.  I utilize a variety of strategies to engage children including play and art.  I believe it is also critical to have a strong knowledge of child and adolescent development.

As a Parent:  A perspective brought into my work

I love working with parents.  As a parent, I can empathize with how incredibly difficult and yet profoundly wonderful the role is.  I have advanced training in working with new parents.  I am a certified Gottman educator for the ‘Bringing Baby Home’ workshop.  This focuses on the transition couples face as they become new parents.  I have completed a 2 year training in the area of Infant Mental Health which focuses on the relationship between a parent and child birth- 3 years.  This work focuses on supporting parents in building a strong attachment with their young children.  It’s truly an honor to be able to help new parents along their journey.
