About Milissa
Adolescent Therapist, Adult Therapist
Approach to Counseling
My approach to counseling is meeting people where they are now. By uncovering individual challenges and fostering the desire to address coping and strength-building issues, we can move toward a more positive approach to living. My goal is to understand where you are coming from and where you want to go and walk beside you as you find your strengths and resilience. I use the following theoretical methods in my practice:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
- Narrative Therapy
- Gestalt therapy
Education and Training
I attended Walden University and received a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling. My experience includes working at a public mental health agency for youth and families. This experience exposed me to a wide age range of clients that are affectionally referred to as “littles, middles, and teens.” By focusing on trauma-informed care and utilized CBT, DBT, IFS, and play and art therapy I developed healing relationships with clients. I feel that I do my best work with adolescents and adults. I am currently under the supervision of an approved supervisor as I complete the last requirements for Licensure in the State of Washington.

On a personal note …
I came to the counseling field after a 30-year-long career of self-exploration that uncovered and honed my desire to share and understand individuals on a deeper level. My experience covered a wide range of industries working in television sports, marketing for engineering consulting services and software companies, and a long career as a Product Manager in the technology field. During my time in these careers, I realized that I was fascinated by uncovering what challenges, values, and motivations drive individuals to seek out vocations and lifestyles that inhabit personal values. Moving forward, I hope to walk beside others to help them move through personal challenges and struggles to get to a place of peace. Everyone has a story to tell, and each one is unique.
